Trinity Links Disc Golf Club and the Lewiston Fresh Start Food Pantry have scheduled the 9th annual Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament for Feb. 28 at Deer Meadow Disc Golf Course in Lewiston. All proceeds support the Lewiston Fresh Start Food Bank, which will provide hot coffee and doughnuts during signup and a delicious lunch between rounds.
Sign up at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. Tee off at 10. Course is in the field behind the Post Office, with parking at St. Gilbert Catholic Church.
There are four adult divisions: $40 buy in, or $35 with a non-perishable food donation (three cans or more, prize for the most food). Now including a Junior (12 and under) division at $25/$30. Players package includes a disc, a mini and lunch, plus coffee and doughnuts at sign in.
Play two rounds of nine holes. Plus, closest to pin contest, and a raffle.
Local businesses are encouraged to participate by donating items for the winner’s prize packages and raffle prizes (all tax-deductible, of course). Organizers have been making the rounds, but if they haven’t gotten to you and you would like to help sponsor the event, they will be sure to give you a big shout out at the event, online, and in post-event publicity.
Official Ice Bowls are played at courses all over the United States and Canada, as well as Europe in a corridor that reflects astronomical winter (Dec. 21-March 22). Each event finds a local charity to support, ideally to fight hunger. Since 1996, disc golfers at nearly 5,000 Ice Bowls have raised over $4.96 million for local charities, including $384K in 2020. The Ice Bowl motto is “No Wimps, No Whiners -- Under no circumstances, may an Ice Bow be canceled or postponed because of weather conditions.”
