Fishing Report

Posted: Wednesday, October 10, 2012 6:15 am

Fishing on the Hoopa Reservation. I am thoroughly confused about non-Tribal member’s ability to access the Trinity River across Tribal lands. I have tried to contact Tribal Chairman Leonard Masten, without success, sorry! My discussions with Darin Jarnaghan, head of Tribal Forestry and in charge of developing access permits for sports fishermen, has led to a confused answer for temporary river access permits on a limited basis. For you sports fishermen I recommend that you call Jarnaghan at 530-625-4284, ext. 101, and ask him how you can get a temporary access permit as a sports fisherman that fishes from the bank. Otherwise you will have to wait until the Tribal Council agrees to some type of river access across Tribal lands.

As for fishing guides I received a phone call the other day that said the Tribal Chair told Karen at Pearson’s store in Weitchpec that she could pass the word to guides that they could go ahead and fish the gorge from Red Rock to Weitchpec. I have no confirmation of this but you can call Pearson’s store and ask for Karen at 530-627-3241.
