Lewiston resident Patti Ryan has won another bodybuilding championship, coming in first in her class at the Team USA competition in Las Vegas Sept. 28.
Ryan, 69, competed in the Ultra Masters figure competition for women ages 60-69.
The competition is organized by the International Natural Bodybuilding Association, which bans the use of steroids or any other performance-enhancing drugs.
“I’m thrilled to win again,” Ryan said. “But what really makes me happy is showing older women that they can condition and take care of themselves just as well as younger men and women.”
She thanked her mentor, Kelly O’Brien of the White Wolf Gym in Weaverville, for her training, and her husband Richard Cole for his constant support.
The championship is Ryan’s fifth since she started competing in 2017 at O’Brien’s urging.
Ryan works out at the White Wolf Gym five or six days a week, rides her elliptical for a half-hour twice a day at home, walks at least 10,000 steps a day and sticks to a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet.
