Fall sports gearing up at THS

Sports at Trinity High School are beginning for the new school year. Below are some updates for some of the fall season sports. There is also one more free Sports Physical Day coming up on Thursday at Weaverville Elementary School.

► Sports Physicals: The Trinity Community Health Clinic will be providing free sports physicals from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 22, at the Weaverville Elementary School cafeteria. This is a great time to get your yearly sports physical that is required to participate in school sports.

This free clinic is open to both local high school athletes and elementary school athletes. A consent form is required. Required sign-ups have passed; for more information e-mail Bob Jeangerard at rjeangerard@tausd.org or call 623-6127, ext. 2103, and leave your name and contact number.

► Volleyball: Girls volleyball will begin with tryouts Aug. 2-5 at the Weaverville Elementary School gym. JV will practice from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and varsity from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Denice Cody is the new varsity coach and is looking forward to a great season! ► Cross-Country: The cross-country team has begun its summer workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 30 a.m. at the track. Come out and get an early morning workout with the team and coach Joanne Harper. This is a great sport to be a part of with a very successful history. ► Football: Summer football conditioning and practice continues from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Monday through Thursday at the high school field for both JV and varsity. ► Soccer: Soccer will begin practice at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 on the soccer field. This is a coed league so everyone is welcome. Coach Estevan Biggs is looking forward to a strong season of tournaments and games. Coach Biggs can be reached at estevan.biggs@gmail.com.

► Swimming: Practice is set to begin Aug. 2 at the Lowden Park pool. More details are coming as we get closer to that date. Coach Dan Rupp is raring to go and can be reached at drupp@tausd.org.

Football skills clinic July 29

Trinity High School football will hold a free football skills clinic for grades 4 through 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29.

THS football coaches and athletes will be on hand to run attendees through footwork drills — “Heads Up” tackling vs. bags, QB accuracy competition and chalk talk.

TYSL signups underway

Signups for Trinity Youth Soccer League’s fall season are underway. Athletes my register at ACE Hardware in Weaverville or online at https://trinityyouthsoccer.wixsite.com/tysl.

Registration deadline for U12 and U14 leagues was July 16. Deadline for U6-U10 is Thursday, Aug. 12.

U12 and U14 players must include, or upload, a copy of their birth certificate and a photo with registration.

The league age of the player is based on their age on Dec. 31, 2021.

Fees for U6 (ages 4-5) are $50;

For U8 (ages 6-7), $55;

For U10 (ages 8-9), $60;

For U12 (ages 10-11), $70;

For U14 (ages 12-13), $70.

The Trinity Journal is seeking a freelance sportswriter.

The position would provide coverage of Hayfork High School and/or Southern Trinity  High School sporting events.

Photo/video skills helpful, but not required.
