Following a weekend of slow activity on the Monument fire, crews continue to snuff hot spots and monitor burning areas, but plan to start clearing out soon.

Effective today, Sept. 16, there will be continuous traffic control nightly (7 days a week) from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. via a pilot car on Highway 299 in Trinity County through areas affected by the Monument fire.

The Monument fire is currently estimated at 145,357 acres with 16% containment, an increase of approximately 3,000 acres and 6%

containment from Friday, Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service reported Saturday morning, Aug. 21.

The Monument fire continues to burn west of Big Bar, along both sides of Highway 299 and east of Cedar Flat. The fire has grown to 24,719 acres with 0% containment continuing to threaten the communities of Big Bar, Del Loma, Big Flat, and Burnt Ranch.
