Retired judge endorses Johnson

Posted: Wednesday, October 3, 2012 6:15 am

I am pleased to see two candidates for Superior Court judge in Trinity County this November whose families have given so much to their local communities, and continue to do so. Both candidates have also contributed significantly to the legal community for many years as well, though in different ways.

As a former Trinity County judge, I understand the diverse areas of law that must be overseen and managed by the Superior Court judges, including the vast array of civil law that includes business, probate, real estate, water rights issues, and many other facets of civil litigation. I also understand that a sound understanding of criminal procedure and reversible error in criminal trial proceedings is important, despite that a substantial percentage of criminal case filed are resolved by plea bargains and relatively few criminal trials occur as a percentage of such filings.
