Are we still a Christian country?

When did we decide that the teachings of Jesus Christ — to feed the poor, nurse the sick, welcome the stranger — no longer apply?

What have we become when we no longer follow the Lord? A Christian country? In name only, and so shall we be judged.

Will we, as a modern Christian nation, cut food stamps and unemployment assistance and welfare to the poor, rip away health care subsidies, and build walls all around us to keep “other” people out?

You know who is outside of those walls? Perhaps you’ll remember His name. He said this: As you have done unto one of the least of these, so also have you done unto me.

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was a hungry, and you gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and you visited me not.”

I don’t want to suffer that fate. Do you? Perhaps we should change course and get our country headed in the righteous direction.
