Haney fighting the boogie man

Posted: Wednesday, October 3, 2012 6:15 am

Mike Trott’s praise for Sheriff Bruce Haney’s emphasis on our marijuana “problem” is short-sighted. The sheriff’s primary problem is inadequate manpower. His emphasis on fighting the boogie man further reduces his manpower. I fail to see how that’s helpful to the people of Trinity County.

Nearly half of his small force is devoted to drug enforcement. Between those that comprise the Drug Task Force, the Code Enforcement Officer, whose primary duty is to enforce the new County Marijuana Ordinance, and now the two K-9 deputies who will undoubtedly will spend a large part of their time servicing requests from the USFS, CHP, DFG, BLM and other deputies to sniff out drugs, there’s little left to keep the wolves off the sheep.
