Mark Edward Birge passed away peacefully at home in Lewiston on Oct. 12, 2021. He was 51.
He was born Feb. 17, 1970, in Redding, Calif., to Larry and Linda Birge. The youngest of three boys, he did everything early, wanting to compete with his older brothers. Mark was a gifted athlete and excelled in most everything he tried. Mark gave 100% to whatever he did. He was a shop-sponsored bicycle motocross racer and a catcher for Redding Youth baseball.
He loved collecting things, from rocks to coins and stamps. There was always room for more “stuff.” Some people knew him as “Hillbilly” for his love of the mountains and his dislike of wearing shoes. A lifelong asthmatic, breathing had become extremely difficult.
A sensitive, caring, and honest man, he will be missed by many.
Mark is survived by his mother Linda of Lewiston; his daughter Hannah BreeLynn Scheer of Chico; brothers David and John of Nevada City, Calif.; his daughter’s mother Joyce Mobley; two aunts, one uncle, one niece, nine nephews and his beloved chihuahua, Chula.
He is preceded in death by his father Larry; maternal grandparents Frank and Ethel Bigelow; and paternal grandparents Helen Schwickerth and Ernest Birge.
A memorial is tentatively planned in Grass Valley, Calif., at a later date.
