Robert E. Plumb

Robert Everet Plumb passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 2020, in Rocklin, Calif.

Bob was born in San Francisco in 1924, grew up there and in Yosemite National Park. He graduated from UC Berkeley and enjoyed a 34-year career as an exploration geophysicist for Mobil Oil Corporation.

In 1944 Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant. Upon completion of navigation school, he was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 487th Bombardment Group based in Lavenham, England, as a B-17 Navigator. After VE Day, May 8, 1945, the 487th flew POWs interned in Austria to be decommissioned, freed and returned to their homes in France.

Bob learned to fly in the 1950s and earned his commercial pilot’s license. He later took flying to greater levels, earning instrument instructor, airline transport and seaplane ratings. He accumulated more than 3,400 hours and flew well into his 80s. He was honored by the FAA with a citation for his record of achievements and safety, and as a model for young airmen coming along.

Upon his retirement from Mobil, Bob and his wife Pat moved to Trinity Center, where they built his dream home. It was his full expectation that those he loved would visit him often and enjoy the beauty of Trinity as he did. He and Pat lived there until 2018, at which time they moved to Rocklin.

As you can imagine, Bob’s greatest treasure was his family and includes his wife, Pat; his sister, Elizabeth Plumb Lee; his children: Mart, Bob, Tom, Pete, Anne Marie, Kathy, David and Jenny; his grandchildren: Sarah, Tom, David, Dan, Taylor, Spencer, Katie, Nick, Kelly, Jenny, Matt, Daniel, Andy, Sam, Spencer and Tyler; and his great-grandchildren: Ellie, Hunter, Emerson, Miles, Scotty, Hudson and Grayson.

In his later years, despite the fullness of his life in all these ways, something was missing. A gift offered but not received. He came to the realization that his eternal destiny had not been secured, and over time, he came to faith in Christ, receiving Him, as in John 3, as his personal Savior. So we may say of Bob Plumb that he was…

Born of the flesh on Nov. 17, 1924; Born of the Spirit to everlasting life on Jan. 24, 2018.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
