Valencia Jean Hanlon

Valencia Jean Hanlon, 87, passed away on June 2, 2020, in Torrance, Calif.

She was born in Midland, S.D. on Feb. 8, 1933. Her parents, Tom and Florence Hanlon moved the family to Trinity County when Valencia was about 3 years old. She grew up and attended school in Weaverville.

Valencia moved to Southern California as a young woman, returning to Weaverville for visits and the birth of her two living children. She earned her Nursing degree in 1974 from Long Beach City College.

Valencia is survived by son, Michael Stephen Young (so named for Dr. Mike Polka who delivered him), daughter Cheri Michele Brown, both of Long Beach; brothers Jerry (Lee) Hanlon of Anderson, Calif., and John (Jenny) Hanlon of Reno, Nev.; sisters Patricia Dabler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Leslie (Dave) Wilson of Redding, and Kathy (Bob) Fox of Weaverville; 13 grandchildren and many greats and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two children, John Thomas Schmidt and Tavi Ann Fulmer.
