Raymond Ernest Armstrong Jr., 77, of Hayfork left us Aug. 15, 2021, to be with the Lord.

Born in Waco, Texas, on March 31, 1944, he was an only child to Hazel Lee and Raymond Ernest Armstrong Sr.

Ray joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. He served his country from 1962-1971. He was a sonarman aboard submarines. He served on the USS Salmon from 1963 through 1965. He was in the North PAC 1963 SS five [51] patrols SSBN. He was on the USS Ethan Allen SSBN 1966-1970.

When he retired from the Navy he relocated to Seabrook, Texas, and became a sailboat salesman. He relocated to California in 1976 and lived in Hayfork for the past 12 years.

Ray is survived by a son, David Scott; and a daughter, Deborah Lynne; a cousin; Ronald Owen; and five grandchildren.

He will be missed.
