Donald K. Palmer

Donald K. “Don” Palmer, age 86, a resident of Weaverville, died on March 14, 2020, at Trinity Hospital following an extended illness.

Don was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Manus Gilbert and Winifred Claryce Palmer. He spent his early years in Minneapolis before serving in the U.S. Navy. Following his service in the Navy he started his career in banking. He worked in banking for 30 years in Minnesota, Southern California and Weaverville. He retired as the bank manager for U.S. Bank in Weaverville.

Don was active in the community as an ambulance attendant, secretary for the Weaverville Volunteer Fire Department and was the football announcer for Trinity High School for many years. In his later years he was a valued member of the staff of Trinity Alps Funeral Home. He was well known as a historian, particularly of his passion, baseball.

Following retirement, he and his wife, Peggy, were able to travel for several years between Arizona and Idaho. They returned to Weaverville three years ago.

Don his survived by his children, Debbie Dills (Kevin) of Sonora, Calif., Eric Palmer (Karen) of Weaverville, and Cindy Lloyd (Greg) of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren Jennifer Oliver, Donald Palmer, Sarah Schuster, James Palmer and Ryan Dills; and seven great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weaverville Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are by Trinity Alps Funeral Home in Weaverville.
