Lights are flashing red, for now

As the rain was starting Monday, pavement was being laid down at the intersection of Highway 299 and Lance Gulch Road below flashing red stoplights. Trinity County Roads Department Senior Engineer Andy Pence said Monday that the lights will remain flashing red for a week or so, as they will need to be inspected by Caltrans. Last week, signal arms were lifted into place and bolted to the poles on the east and west facing lanes. After that, crews dug into the roadway to install the sensors that will trigger the lights. Pence said some wiring, striping and other jobs need to be taken care of before the lights can turn green, yellow and red.
