While it looked and sounded like there was a major crime unfolding in the middle of Weaverville Tuesday afternoon, the outcome was less than exciting. At about 2:50 p.m., officers from several local agencies converged on the 600 block of Main Street for a report that two male subjects were engaged in a physical altercation in the street. Upon officer arrival, no such subjects were located. Shortly afterward, Sheriff Tim Saxon said while it was somewhat of a non-issue, and that investigators were talking to a couple subjects related to the call. As for the number of responding officers, Saxon said it’s always best to send all available units to such a call, in case it’s necessary. “Nine times out of 10, it will turn out to be less than reported,” he said, noting that too many officers is better than too few in a real emergency.
