A Texas man died and another was injured Friday, Oct. 29, when they were hit by a falling tree along Pelletreau Ridge Road near Hyampom. Sheriff’s Det. Josh Ford said four people from Austin, Texas, were driving on Pelletreau Ridge Road at night when they found the roadway blocked by fallen trees. The occupants of the car got out and were clearing the trees from the roadway when more trees fell, hitting two of them. At about 9:15 p.m., the other occupants called 911 to report the incident.

Joe Epifanio Faz II, of Austin, Texas, died from injuries at the scene and the other subject was treated for an injured shoulder and released. Detective Ford said Faz’s family had been notified. Names of the other occupants in the car were not released.
