Slide project

The California Department of Transportation, in conjunction with Stimpel-Wiebelhaus Associates, will begin work Tuesday on an emergency slide project next week on Highway 299 just east of Big French Creek Bridge, between Big Bar and Del Loma.

On Jan. 29, a slide at this location closed Highway 299 for multiple hours. Caltrans maintenance crews successfully cleared approximately 2,000 cubic yards of slide material and the highway was reopened later that day. Emergency work on the project includes slope excavation and material removal, increasing debris collection area, and modifying drainage inlet in the area as needed.

Starting Tuesday, March 10, motorists will encounter one-way traffic control in the area during daytime hours Monday through Friday, with up to 15-minute delays. Work and scheduling on the emergency project are weather dependent. The project is anticipated to be completed by early June.
