The Trinity County Resource Conservation District and Trinity County Fire Safe Council invites all interested parties to attend upcoming Wildfire Protection Meetings for their communites. For the event nearest you please see the list below.

The goal of these meetings is to inform the public about and collect input for the Trinity County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, last updated in 2015. This plan helps to identify and prioritize fuel reduction projects throughout Trinity County. Priority projects identified through this process may be eligible for future grant-funded hazard fuel reduction work. Many priority CWPP fuels treatment projects have been implemented in communities such as Lewiston, Trinity Center and Weaverville.

The meetings will provide an overview of the CWPP process, discuss local fire conditions, and ask the community to review infrastructure and identify needed fuel reduction projects. Community members will be able to rank the projects. The meetings will provide tools for neighborhoods to risk assessments and discuss wildfire preparedness and evacuation plans. Personnel from Cal Fire, U.S. Forest Service, local volunteer fire departments, Trinity County Office of Emergency Services, and Watershed Research and Training Center have agreed to participate in these meetings as available.

The data collected at these meetings will be complied into maps for the CWPP 2020 update. Local fire officials will then give their ranking of the projects. Project ranking will also include fire history, recent fuel reduction projects, and fuel loading.

Furthermore, the CWPP process will evaluate the current Wildland-Urban Interface boundaries and establish modifications based on community growth over the past five years.

The Trinity County RCD and FSC have been a part of developing the County’s CWPP since the first drafting in 1999, signed in 2001. This will be the project’s fourth update. This project is funded by Cal Fire.
