A small group of citizens gathered outside Trinity County Superior Court Wednesday but left immediately after it was ruled that a plea entry for Michael Hastey will be held over to Jan. 22. In court Dec. 4, attorney Eric Bruce said he will be Hastey’s attorney but had been assigned to be Hastey’s counsel only a day before.

With the mutual agreement of County Probation and District Attorney Donna Daly, the plea entry was held over to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Daly said the continuation is to allow Bruce to research the case and be ready for a preliminary hearing.

Hastey is standing trial as an adult for the Jan. 8 murder of Nathan Perdue in Weaverville. The determination to try Hastey as an adult was the result of a determination by Judge Eric Heryford.
