A Weaverville man was killed and several others were injured last night, Oct. 29, when a vehicle crossed into the opposing lane on Highway 299 at Douglas City and the vehicles crashed head-on, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said Andrew John Carey, 50, of Weaverville, had been driving a GMC Sierra westbound east of Steiner Flat Road at 8:19 p.m. when the GMC veered across the double yellow lines and struck a Subaru Legacy driven by 84-year-old Eldon Ray Wolfe, also of Weaverville.
Following the crash, both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Eldon Wolfe was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, Charlene Joy Wolfe, 73, and Foster Travis Burns, 57, both of Weaverville, were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with moderate injuries.
Carey was taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries and his passenger, 50-year-old Kimberly Jones of Weaverville, was taken to Trinity Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash, the CHP said.
The cause is under investigation.
