Sheriff’s officials say they have no information about a rumor circulating on social media concerning a locally known subject, Kevin Buser, 27, who is known to frequent Weaerville’s Main Street seeking handouts of change and food.

It was circulated on Facebook that he had been found dead under a bridge in Weaverville, but Sheriff’s Det. Josh Ford says the rumor is unsubstantiated and Sheriff’s Office has not investigated any such cases.

“We have had no reports of that and we have sent people out to check under all the bridges,” Ford said.

A check of local detention facilities in five surrounding counties turned up nothing and law enforcement officers say they have had no contact with him. However, Ford said he had seen a message recently saying Buser had been spotted near the Safeway store in Redding. Ford said Buser is known by law enforcement to be a peaceful person and that the posting received an outpouring of supportive comments.

Ford said the person who posted the information on Facebook has since taken it down.
