A Weaverville man is in jail after allegedly hitting another with his vehicle in the parking lot at Lee Fong Park on Friday, July 16.
According to a Sheriff’s Office release, deputies and Highway Patrol officers responded to Lee Fong Park to find an injured pedestrian. Nearby, they also found an unoccupied vehicle that had been high-centered on large rocks.
“Prior to medical transport, the victim identified the suspect in the matter as having been Jason Ryan,” the release states. “The victim further indicated that Ryan had fled the scene on foot and had also intentionally struck him with the vehicle.”
Ryan was found at a nearby residence and investigators said he admitted to driving the vehicle.
“He also admitted to fleeing the scene and initially being dishonest with law enforcement, based on his fear of going to jail,” the release states.
Ryan was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, and felony hit and run.
The victim was taken to a local area hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
As of Monday morning, Ryan was still being held and bail had been set at $10,000.
