A trailer at the Sidney Gulch RV Park in Weaverville was destroyed by fire Friday night.

The occupants were not home when the fire broke out at approximately 8 p.m., Weaverville Fire Chief Todd Corbett said.

Weaverville Fire duty officer Gus Kormeier was first on scene. He found that the trailer was almost fully engulfed, and neighbors were trying to extinguish the flames with garden hoses, Corbett said.

Kormeier was able to knock down the fire using the compressed foam unit from his fire department pickup.

Fire engines arrived and finished the job.

The trailer was a complete loss, Corbett said, crediting Kormeier and the compressed foam unit put on the pickup last year for the fact the fire didn’t spread.

The department investigated, Corbett said, but due to extensive damage the cause of the fire could not be determined.

Ten firefighters from the Weaverville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze, along with Cal Fire.
