A Weaverville tow truck driver died at the scene of a solo crash on Highway 299 Saturday morning, Sept. 12. According to a California Highway Patrol report, David Knight, 59, was driving eastbound near Corral Bottom Road at about 4:30 a.m., when, for unknown reasons, his 2016 Ford flatbed tow truck crossed the oncoming lane and hit the rock embankment.

The impact crushed the driver’s side of the cab and the truck partially blocked the westbound lane. According to CHP, he succumbed to injuries as a result of the crash.

CHP officers examined the scene but a cause has not been determined, and the crash remains under investigation.
