Sheriff’s officials said they located, arrested and released the shooter in a recent incident In Big Bar. The shooter was immediately released after an investigation determined the shooting to have been justified, according to Sheriff’s Detective Josh Ford.
Deputies responded to 911 calls about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, that many gunshots had been heard, along with vehicles speeding away from the area. Immediately afterward, another caller disclosed that a male subject had been shot. According to dispatch logs, another caller reported that a vehicle had crashed into a fence in Big Bar and that it may be related to the previous reports.
After the incident, Ford said Downriver Fire Department personnel transported the gunshot victim to a nearby helipad to wait for an air ambulance. When air ambulance companies declined due to unsafe weather, the victim was taken to a Redding hospital by Trinity County Life Support. At the time, his condition was listed as stable, but since names were not released, an update on his condition is unavailable.
