The Trinity County District Attorney’s Office charged a Burnt Ranch man with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of another man on May 24.
Court records show that Erik John Windschitl also faces several special allegations involving use of a firearm and great bodily injury against Dolan Murphy.
Windschitl appeared in court May 31 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has since been released from jail pending trial after posting $500,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for June 19.
In an earlier news release, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office said Windschitl, 39, called in saying the other man had attacked him causing Windschitl to shoot the man.
It was discovered that the victim had slapped Windschitl in the face, just prior to Windschitl discharging a firearm at the victim two or three times, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The two men resided on the same property in Burnt Ranch. Murphy was transported to a local area hospital. He was treated for several gunshot wounds and later released.
