JUNCTION CITY MONITOR
This past weekend Louise Lawson, Diane Weaver, Kim and Susie Rasmusen, Edith Millan, Barbara Gallwitz, Harriet Mattheis, Sally Styczynski, Linda Snell, Sue Rose, Carmen Wolfinbarger and Sydney Adams carpooled to San Ramon for the TOPS Club Area Recognition Days. They had mixed feelings this year as they had heard it would be the last of these celebrations.
None of the TOPS clubs from this area had a queen or king in contention this year, but TOPS Weaverville 1846 had the winning banner made by Edith Mitchell. Edith has had many winning banners throughout the years and her club would like to thank her for her hard work over the years. Terry Taylor made the poster this year for 1846. Louise Lawson always designs the shirts for this club and they are always a big hit. This year’s theme was Star Trek Mission is Possible and the club went down decked out with space alien earrings designed by Edith. It was a special year as Loretta Bloxham, who has been Northern California area coordinator for more than 25 years, retired from her position and the rumor is that there will be no more ARDs. This event has been the place where everyone from the entire area graduates from TOPS to KOPS and all accomplishments for the weight loss are celebrated. The Weaverville clubs have had a large percentage of the royalty throughout the years as well as banner and poster awards. Jeannie McNeil has been a Century Club winner for several years now. It’s been a great time for the clubs to share ideas and learn new ideas. Only time will tell how the rallies being planned will meet the needs for TOPS.
My apologies to the Soup Kitchen as I had the wrong information last week. The Soup Kitchen is every Tuesday of the month at the Douglas City Fire Hall from 11:30 a m. to 1:30 p.m. The Catholic, Congregational, Baptist and Nazarene churches each sponsor a week every month with the fifth Tuesday being all churches working together.
After this last week I don’t think it can be said that we haven’t had enough rain this year. Hopefully the water table is up and there will be no talk of drought. Thanks to all the people who have been working on their brush and helping to keep our town fire safe. We’ve seen lots of burn piles going up and lots of brush stacked for the chippers that are coming. April showers bring the flowers that bloom in May and hopefully the sunshine, too.
