Yuba man killed in crash

TRINITY JOURNAL STAFF

A Yuba City man died Friday evening after his vehicle went off Highway 299 west of Lewiston Road, striking trees and rolling down an embankment, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said Paul Allan Roush III, 46, was driving a Kia westbound at approximately 7 p m. when a witness observed the vehicle being driven erratically. The witness said the Kia was being driven at approximately 55 to 60 mph and several times the driver allowed it to cross into the eastbound lane several feet and then back to the right onto the shoulder several feet, the CHP said.

As the road curved right, the Kia continued on a straight path, according to the CHP report, going over the eastbound lane and onto the wide dirt shoulder. It became airborne at one point and struck a large tree, then rolled several times down the adjacent embankment and struck another large tree.

Roush was trapped for approximately 30 minutes, and after being extricated could not be revived as he succumbed to his injuries.

The CHP said the crash remains under investigation, and it has not been determined if alcohol was a factor.
