FROM THE NORTH 40

BY LYNN HARTLEY . lhartley@tds.net

I think we’re beginning to emerge from the “long, dark winter.” It’s a beautiful spring day as I write but I’m told we may see snow showers in this coming week. Each day there is much more lake to see and enjoy and it makes me eager for summer. When I look at my records of 43 inches of precipitation for this year compared to last year I can’t help but hope for a normal summer.

Daylight-saving is about to returned. Don’t forget to “spring forward” with your clocks this Saturday night after Lions’ Little Reno Night.

While we are all hoping the rumors of new restaurants opening in the area come true, we are managing to create a very full social calendar for all of us here in the Northlake area. So get your pencils and calendars and don’t miss out any of these fun events. Hope to see you there.

Yes, Saturday the 13th of March is the famous “Little Reno Night.” Doors open at 8 p m. Come and play games and win prizes (see the ad in the Journal). You can help close things down at midnight.

March 20 is our second Northlake Communities Potluck dinner at 6 p m. We won’t have Bingo this time so that you and your neighbors can relax and visit. Bring your bottle of wine or whatever, along with your glasses, plates, silverware and a dish to share.

The First Lions Spaghetti Sauce Cook Off will be held April 10. Call Brian Bogdanich, president of Lions Club, to enter your sauce. There are two categories of sauce: meat and nonmeat. Entrants need to provide their own source of heat and bring a gallon of sauce. Judging will occur at 4 p.m. There will be a $250 grand prize.

Now for those who would prefer to just come and sample these sauces, a complete spaghetti dinner with salad, garlic bread and a drink will be served at the IOOF Hall in Trinity Center at 6 p m. that day. The cost is only $8.

Also in April, on the 24th is the awesome Coffee Creek Fire Department Chili Feed and Auction.

This month both our schools have ski/snowboard trips planned to Mt. Shasta.

Trinity Center School students have choir practice on Wednesdays under the direction of our wonderful Mary Hanson and Art Club is Thursday with Veronica Stewart at the helm. Coffee Creek students practice their chess skills every week. I’m looking forward to the human chess game coming up. Count me in.

Momentum is building. Several people are collecting signatures in favor of annexing neighborhoods south of the current Community Service District boundaries into the district. Results are looking favorable and we will collect forms for a preliminary count on April 30. Be sure your vote is counted. A final count will be done on May 30 and the committee will present its findings to the CSD board at its June meeting. If you need more information or wish to sign but have not done so, contact Virginia Allin at 266-3518.
