Girls team keeps pace with perfect league mark The Hayfork High School Lady Timberjacks ran their record to a league-leading 4- 0 by defeating the Champion Christian Mustangs 24-21 on Tuesday and routing Maxwell 50-27 Friday night in Hayfork. Jamie Curry with 19 points and Alysha Yeske with 13 led the Lady Jacks in scoring against Champion Christian. Yeske was high scorer with 17 points against the Maxwell Panthers; Karmin McNeil added 11 points; and Curry added 9 points to go with her game-leading 10 rebounds. The Timberjacks defense left Maxwell scoreless in the first quarter with Hayfork taking an 8-0 lead, and by halftime the Jacks were in control, 29-7. McNeil scored two baskets to start the second half and Yeske scored two of her game-high five 3-pointers followed by a basket and two free throws by Melia Mercill for a third-quarter lead of 43-11. In the fourth quarter Curry scored twice on free throws and added a 2-point basket before Samantha Smith ended the Timberjacks scoring with a 3-point basket for a final score of 50-27. The JV girls followed Tuesday’s 26-19 victory over Champion Christian with a 38-33 win in Friday night’s match against Maxwell to run their league-leading record to 4-0. Chantel Little scored 12 points and Amanda Patton 10 to lead the Lady Jacks in scoring against Maxwell in a game Hayfork led from start to finish. Emily Drain scored 7 points, Harley Harrison 6 and Elizabeth Conway 5 for the Timberjacks. |
