Hayfork boys, girls take early league leads
Boys basketball team moves to 4-0 with a pair of convincing wins
      The Hayfork High School Timberjacks survived a rough-and-tumble match against Maxwell with a strong second half en route to a hard-fought 69-56 victory Friday night at home against the Maxwell Panthers.

Girls team keeps pace with perfect league mark
      The Hayfork High School Lady Timberjacks ran their record to a league-leading 4- 0 by defeating the Champion Christian Mustangs 24-21 on Tuesday and routing Maxwell 50-27 Friday night in Hayfork. Jamie Curry with 19 points and Alysha Yeske with 13 led the Lady Jacks in scoring against Champion Christian.

Trinity boys pick up three wins
      This past week was filled with home games for the Trinity High School basketball teams. The varsity boys (12-6, 3-2) owned the week with a trio of landslide wins. On Wednesday, Etna fell to Trinity after starting the final quarter with a tie, but the Wolves charged forward and ended with a win of 60-51.

      The Hayfork High School Timberjacks, Lady Timberjacks and girls JV teams have combined for a 12-0 league record after four games. The Lady Jacks lead the North Valley League with a 4-0 record, giving them a halfgame lead over Westwood (3-0). Champion Christian with a record of 3-1 is still in contention.

Wildcats win tournaments at home, on the road in McKinleyville
      Weaverville Elementary School hosted its annual Invitational Basketball Tournament Jan. 22-23. Teams participating were Weaverville, Trinity Valley, Bella Vista, Turtle Bay, Mistletoe, Hayfork, Douglas City and Evergreen.

Head coach sought for Waves swim team
      The Weaverville Waves are now accepting applications for head swim coach for the 2010 summer season. Hours are between 2.5 and 3.5 a day on weekdays, and eight hours a day on most weekends for swim meets. The season starts in May and ends in August.

     Little League sign-ups Play ball! Trinity Little League will start its 54th season on April 10. Signups will run from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20- 21, at CVS Pharmacy in Weaverville. Trinity Little League will have limited signup dates and may have a waiting list.
