Appreciate public officials’ efforts, if not the policies We should be grateful to the good folks who serve ALL citizens of our gorgeous county, whether elected or not. Public servants get thrown under the bus all too often, many times by folks who are upset over something that did not go their way. Or some perceived wrong done them. I am not assuming that is the case here because I do not know Steve Lindsay (Feedback, Jan. 20). As for Mike Harper, Jim French, and Deanna Bradford, we should be grateful for their service and tireless efforts on our behalf. If it was not for Jim French and his excellent knowledge of the issues, our schools would be in dire straits. Thanks to his professionalism my kids are getting a good education because he is able to go lobby successfully for the money we need to keep them going. Mike Harper, a true professional. During my time working for the CHP I found Mike to be a solid prosecutor and when Dave Cross retired, found it easy to vote for Mike. As I will as long as he runs. It’s not my place to write about his past, but suffice it to say that we hit gold when he decided to move his family here for a better life outside the big city. He was not “brought” here. He runs unopposed, as does Jim, because of the great job they are doing with very limited money and staff. I think we would be hard pressed to find two individuals with their fire and determination to try to make this county a better place to live. Deanna Bradford is a very sharp lady. Her appointment to the job she holds was a good move. I do know for a fact that these folks often work more hours than they are compensated for. I think that is called commitment. My suggestion for those who don’t like the folks currently in certain jobs, run for office, get involved, attend meetings, get appointed to committees. Or, if it is truly that bad, move. Differing view points shared in the proper forum are healthy and the way our government should run. Cheap shots taken in the local paper or behind peoples’ backs are not a form of healthy government (except you get to enjoy the first amendment guarantee). I must admit, some of these letters would be amusing if not for the sad way these fine folks are personally attacked. |
