Hair drive planned at JC school

Junction City School’s After School Program, the Jaguar Playhouse, will be hosting a Hair Drive in support of three different cancer/leukemia foundations.

On Monday, Feb. 8, between 4 and 6 p.m., the Jaguar Playhouse will have professional hair stylists at Junction City School who will cut and style a donator’s hair, then the Playhouse staff members will send off the hair along with the proper forms to receiving organizations that will, in turn, create a hairpiece for a child or adult that has lost their hair due to a medical condition.

The hair donation minimum length is 8 1/4 inches and there is no maximum length to donate. Hair must be clean and free of hair products at the time of cutting. The group will also be able to accept ponytails with this length that have been previously cut and saved.

The cost of one hairpiece can range between $1,800 and $3,000. It takes from six to 25 ponytails to create one hairpiece and the organizations that have been chosen have reported that they do their best to offer the created hair pieces to patients at little or no cost.

This process is not only helping patients by giving them hair, it’s also giving confidence to those that are going through a very scary and new experience.

For more information about the organizations that have been chosen or the specifications for donating, or to set up an appointment, call Bridget Amon, after school coordinator, at 623-9000 between 2 and 5:30 p.m. or 623-2171 evenings and weekends.
