LEWISTON SLUICE BOX

BY J.A. SCRIBNER 530-778-3701 sluicebox@snowcrest.net

Learn to crochet with one of Trinity County's most talented and prolific needlework artists, Thora Ziegler. Weekly classes will take place at her home at 4720 Trinity Dam Blvd., apartment #2, at 4 p.m. each Tuesday. You may know Thora from her volunteer work at the Lewiston Moose Family Center, or as the president of the committee that made last summer's Peddlers' Faire such a success. But it's her beautiful crochet work that has earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow crafters throughout the North State. An opportunity to learn from such an accomplished crocheter should not be missed. Call 778-3985 to sign up or for more information.

Tonight, the regularly scheduled meeting of the Lewiston Community Services District (LCSD) will be held at the Lewiston Fire Station on Texas Avenue, at 7 p.m. Note this is a change from the usual meeting location at the Lewiston Community Center.

Amanda Burch would like to send out a great big thank you to the Women of the Moose for sponsoring the Greek Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 24. It was a great success. Jim and Zoela Zavas did an outstanding job of preparing the dinner, and Nan Kenyon kept everything running smoothly. A special thank you goes to everyone who bought tickets and attended the fundraising event for her educational trip to Europe in June. Thanks also to Carol Gustine, Lisa Schussman, the Lewiston Hotel and many friends for donating items for the raffle.

The Lewiston Post Office building and parking lot has been a bustling hive of activity lately, with a lot of folks in town wondering what's going on. The complex, which also houses the Plug 'n' Jug market — a Lewiston landmark in its own right — and the popular eatery, Trinity Dam Good Pizza, is undergoing a facelift, the first phase of which should be near completion by the time you're reading this. While the bulletin boards have been removed to make way for the remodeling of the building's façade, a new, smaller bulletin board will be going up soon — good news for those of us who use the vital community services advertised thereon! And, with the permanent closure of the north entrance to the parking lot, measures are being taken to improve the landscaping in that section of the property. Watch for more trees, grass and flowerbeds in the not-too-distant future. More on these and other developments at the "new and improved" Lewiston Post Office complex as they happen…

See the work of artisans and fine crafters from across the North State on display at the upcoming Festival of Light Arts & Fine Crafts Fair on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Lewiston Community Center will be the venue and the Lewiston Moose Family Center will sponsor the event which will feature live music, homemade soups and breads, tasty treats and much more. Preparations are now under way for the allday event. Watch this column for more details, or call event coordinator Pam Yearout at 778- 3135. Her e-mail address is earthdance@compair. net.
