IN BRIEF Hayfork Cemetery cleanup Oct. 25 The Hayfork Cemetery Association will be having a cemetery cleanup day on Sunday, Oct. 25, starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers are greatly appreciated. There should be much to do from weed cutting to raking and just picking up debris. For more information, contact Roy Yates at 628-5825 or Karen at 628-4331. AWANA club to meet First Baptist Church will begin its weekly AWANA Club meetings at 6:30 p m. on Oct. 28. The club is for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, and emphasizes Bible teaching and memory work. Bring a non-perishable food item to benefit families of the mill. The church is located at 1261 Main St. in Weaverville. For more information, contact the church office at 623-4191. Church dedicates Family Life Center A celebration dinner was held Sunday, Oct. 4, to dedicate the completion of the new First Baptist Church Family Life Center building in Weaverville. One hundred and fifty church family members, friends and out-of-town friends attended. Speakers included former pastor Ron Graham, interim pastor Lyndell Kuns and present pastor Jay Underwood. A letter was read from former pastor Paul Richins, containing some of the church's history. A presentation detailed the 1954 groundbreaking of the first building which later became the Fellowship Hall when the new sanctuary was built in 1981. All of the building projects have been done with volunteer labor from the congregation. Special music was enjoyed throughout the evening which concluded with the benediction given by guest pastor Melvin Beals. An open house for the community will be held at a later date. Garden Club talks bees Members and guests of the Trinity Garden Club will meet at 1 p m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the home of Sherri Chiusolo. Ernie Garcia of the U.S. Forest Service will present a program on bees. Refreshments will be served and a short business meeting will be held after the program. Anyone interested in gardening and/or bees is welcome to attend. For more information, call 623-3198 or 623-2851.
