     Patricia Reid-MacGregor and Nate England will star in the Trinity Players' presentation of "Little Shop of Horrors" which opens Friday at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center in Weaverville. The black comedy will be directed by Nancy Amorette Kohl. Performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. are scheduled for Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Matinees will begin at 2 p.m. on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults, $10 for students. Presale tickets are available at local businesses, $14 for adults and $9 for students.

Rotary Classic Film Series back in November
      The Rotary Club of Weaverville is hosting the Classic Film Series at Trinity Theatre again this year. This year's film series will kick off Nov. 8 with the dynamic interplay between Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in "The African Queen" and will continue on the second Sunday of each month through April.

Highland Art Center issues call for entries in holiday art show
      "Good Things Come in Small Packages" is the theme for the Christmas Show at Highland Art Center this year. The gallery is issuing a call-to-artists and will be looking for small paintings 10 inches by 12 inches or smaller that are framed and ready to hang. Three-dimensional pieces will also be considered with a maximum of 8 inches cubed.

      I have three girls, which means I have three "very important" birthdays to remember. The next birthday is coming up in November and then I'm good for a few months. A child's birthday, apparently, is a big deal. The reminders begin at about 10 months out.

AS THE RIVER FLOWS
      It's definitely fall, and in Hyampom that means it's harvest time! We are, of course, talking about Hyampom's famous wine grapes. The various vineyards have been in the process of picking and crushing the grapes for the last week, and it looks like the valley will produce some fine wines once again this year.

      This Friday is the last Farmers' Market of the season, and what a wonderfully productive season it's been. Thanks to all the participants for making this delicious business possible. I'll cherish the fresh heirloom tomatoes to the last bite!
