SPORTS BRIEFS THS Hall of Fame The first members of the newly formed Trinity High School Sports Hall of Fame will be announced at 2 p.m. July 4 at the annual alumni gathering at the Lowden Park. These coaches, athletes, individuals and teams will be honored at the first Red-White Dinner to be held at Trinity Alps Golf Course (Johnsons' Steakhouse) on Saturday, Oct. 17, in conjunction with Trinity High School's Homecoming game to be played Friday, Oct. 16. Other activities will also be held, including a golf tournament on Saturday. More news on this event as well as a list of the inductees will be found on the Web site Classmates.com. Rifle match in Lewiston The Lewiston Gun Club will hold a 100-yard target match for centerfire rifles starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4. Modified International Benchrest Shooters rules will govern the timed, benchrest event. Competition will be in four classes; Factory, Modified, Unlimited and Factory Classic Military. Unlimited scope power is permitted, except for Military, which requires open sights. Military rifles are limited to 6.5mm and larger. Prizes will go to the day's high-round shooters in each class. Fee is $6 per round; shooters may enter multiple rounds. NRA safety procedures will apply. The event is open to the public. Free fishing days coming up The Department of Fish and Game offers two Free Fishing Days each year, including one coming up July 4. On these days, you can fish without having to buy a sport fishing license. All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect. On Free Fishing Days, every angler must have the appropriate report card if they are fishing for salmon in the Klamath-Trinity River system, abalone, steelhead, sturgeon or spiny lobster. The next Free Fishing Day after July 4 is Sept. 7. Big Game drawing results online Hopeful hunters who submitted applications for the Department of Fish and Game's 2009 Big Game Drawing can now view the drawing results online. Applicants can determine immediately whether their name was drawn by visiting https://biggame. dfg.ca.gov/biggame. Successful elk, antelope and sheep tag applicants were notified last week. All tag fees must be received by DFG by 5 p.m. today, July 1, in order to claim the tags. Hunters who are not selected in the deer drawing are also eligible for non-draw tags. Adult Softball League Standings The Men's Softball League is well under way as the teams are already finished with week three of the season. Team league standings are as follows: Diggins 6-0, Young Guns 7-1, Hayfork 4-2, Diamondbacks 4-3, Golf Course 2-3, Madden Paint 1-3, New York Saloon 0-6, Lewiston BH 0-6. The Women's Softball League standings as they have ended their third week of play are as follows: Thunder 4-0, Edge Construction Scallywags 2-2, Trinity Tire Center 0-4.
