Double victory for Lumberjacks
Members of the Trinity Lumberjacks team The Trinity Lumberjacks secured their first two victories of the season, beating the Chico Sabers 13-4 and 7-4 in a semi-pro baseball doubleheader under a blazing sun Sunday at Trinity High School.
Jeff Malloy pitched the first game for Trinity, holding the Sabers to a three-hitter, striking out five batters and walking seven. His pitching efforts were backed up by his team, which had 17 hits total.
Donnie Warren of Salyer went 3-for-5, with the season's first home run for the Lumberjacks, and had two RBIs. Malloy helped his cause by going 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, a walk, and three RBIs. Shane Gillespie and Ryan Hanger also added three hits each in the 13-4 win.
The second game was a twohitter won by Lumberjacks pitcher Bobby Fortner 7-4. Trinity pitchers racked up three strikeouts, and offered up three hit by pitches, nine bases on balls and one sacrifice fly. Trinity scored 7 runs on 11 hits.
Warren continued with two more home runs and five RBIs for the game. Steve Biggs and Fortner each had one RBI. Lumberjack hitters with two hits each were Tyrell Bouchard, Biggs, Warren and Malloy.
Trinity's next game is against the Eel River Eels at 1 p.m. July 26 at Trinity High School, followed by a doubleheader in Eureka on Aug. 2. The Lumberjacks' season record now stands at 2-3.
