Alps Repertory Theater starts Friday
      Alps Repertory Theater in Weaverville will open its season on July 3 with the 1966 Broadway musical "I Do! I Do!" It will feature Weaverville husband-and-wife team Mike and Kathy Martens (above) portraying a couple sharing the trials and joys of their 50 years of married life. "I Do! I Do!" will have 12 performances. Performance this Friday and Saturday start at 8 p.m.

Zugg will head up Fourth of July parade
      Leading the way in Weaverville's Fourth of July parade on Saturday will be a grand marshal most everyone in town knows at least as "the Chamber lady," if not by her real name — Pat Zugg. The parade down Main Street from Court Street to Bremer is set to start at 11:30 a.m.

      As you're heading into downtown Weaverville July 4 for the parade and other festivities, don't forget to bring your favorite bells to help ring in the 33rd annual Ring for Freedom Celebration at the bandstand. The ceremony takes place each year at the bandstand on the corner of Court and Main streets, from 10:45 to 11:02 a.m.

New Lowden Park pool busy, open for holiday
      The new pool at Lowden Park continues to stay busy this summer with users of all ages taking part in the many aquatic activities. The pool is currently accepting swim lesson registrations for Session 3 (July 6-16) and Session 4 (July 20-30). There is still room available for group and private lessons in the morning and evening. Stop in at the pool office from 10 a.m.

      The eighth wonder of the Douglas City world is down by the Trinity River at Frank's River Park, just past our post office. The hanging gardens are down the lane on the left, driving toward the Trinity River. Supported on a strong, wooden gazebo tall enough to walk under, it has row upon row of hanging plants.

Swearing in
     Ron Steves, left, formerly of Weaverville and now a resident of New York, was sworn into office earlier this year as commandant of the Marine Corps League in New York by the league's former commandant. Steves served in the Trinity Alps detachment as judge advocate for two years before moving to New York.

      Last Tuesday June Farmer celebrated her birthday at the bowling alley with around 10 of her friends. The girls had a great time even though it has been years since they had bowled. After the games they joined the rest of their friends at Round Table Pizza for lunch and birthday cake. Happy Birthday, June.

      The Golden Age Center will be closed on the Fourth of July to observe, oh, the Fourth of July. The Blue Barn will be closed as well. The Silent Action, which was previously set up to be an every two week event, has now been planned to run every week. More goodies and delights to gander and bid on. Come on folks -- give us a tour. Ruth Lake Festival
      The 15th Annual Ruth Lake Summer Festival will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. This event will take place at Ruth Lake Recreation Campground in southern Trinity County with free admission and parking. It's a fun-filled weekend getaway with something for everyone.
