Strike up the community band

Trinity County residents who want to have fun with music this summer should consider joining the Weaverville Community Marching Band. The band marches in the Fourth of July parade and is open to people of all ages who have at least one year of experience playing a band instrument.

A large part of the band will be made up of the marching percussion section which includes bass drums, snare drums, tenor drums, quads and cymbals. The band will also include flag and banner carriers.

Rehearsals for the percussion section will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, and rehearsals for all band members will be on June 30, and July 1-2. Rehearsals will take place in the Weaverville Elementary School music room.

The marching percussion section will be led by Jack and Cindy Journey. For more info about the drum section, they can be reached at 530-266- 3327. For any other info about the marching band, call Randall Walker at 623-2734 or Hal Oleari at 623-1676.
