ARTHUR FREEMAN CARPENTER

Arthur Freeman Carpenter, 74, of Hayfork, died Jan. 13, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

He was born April 4, 1934, in Denver, Colo. He was a veteran. He was superintendent of public works for the City of Poway for 25 years. He moved to Trinity County from Poway 31 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his former spouse and best friend, Lois Carpenter of Hayfork; and brothers, Willis Carpenter, Kenneth Carpenter and Julius Carpenter. He is survived by his son, John Collins of Hayfork; daughter, Cindy Smyth of Hayfork; brothers, George Carpenter of Nevada and Larry Carpenter of Arkansas; sisters, Ava Griffin of Hayfork and Betty Williams of Washington; grandchildren, Natasha, Nicole, Tryann, Nathaniel, Mitchem, Kyla, John and Crystal; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Tyler, McKenzie, Dylan, Luke, Nicholas, Victoria, Austin, John, Jacob and Joseph.

Services were held Jan. 17 at the Solid Rock Church in Hayfork. Pastor Keith Wright officiated.
