MARGIE D. MILLER
      Margie D. Miller passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center in Redding with her daughters by her side on January 3. Margie was a cherished mother, a beloved grandmother and a dedicated teacher whom many of her students will remember with great fondness. To her many friends, she will be remembered for her generosity of spirit and sharing of her kindness and happiness.

EDWARD LYNN JONES
      Edward Lynn Jones was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Pauto, Okla. He passed away in the early hours of Jan. 8, 2009, surrounded by family. Ed worked in the lumber industry in Hayfork for 38 years. He had a great love for life and was known for his love of animals.

MAREN DIONNE HOWLAND
      Maren Dionne Howland passed away Jan. 1 at Trinity Hospital. She was 78 years old. Maren was born in Eureka in 1930. Maren's childhood was spent helping her father with his "Lady Slipper" gold mine in the Coffee Creek area. Her teen years were full of excitement on the family's "dude ranch" at the Carrville Guest Ranch, specializing in the care of horses.

RITA DIANE (HEINSELMAN) BURKET RHODES
      Rita Diane (Heinselman) Burket Rhodes passed away Friday, Jan. 16, at Northern California Rehabilitation Hospital with her daughter and sister at her side. She was born April 23, 1941, in San Diego and moved to Trinity County in 1952. She was a longtime resident of Coffee Creek and loved her mountains.

ARTHUR FREEMAN CARPENTER
      Arthur Freeman Carpenter, 74, of Hayfork, died Jan. 13, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He was born April 4, 1934, in Denver, Colo. He was a veteran. He was superintendent of public works for the City of Poway for 25 years. He moved to Trinity County from Poway 31 years ago.
