Lewiston Sluice Box
      The Unique Boutique is open Saturday, Jan. 31, at the community center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are some great new items for sale as well as specials on warm winter sweaters. The Boutique is organized by the Lewiston Sparkies and all proceeds benefit the Lewiston Fire Department. The Sparkies will meet on Monday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. at the community center.

So. Trinity News
      Bring your appetites to the St. Patrick's Day dinner on Saturday, March 14, at the community hall on the Van Duzen road. A cocktail hour is at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6 p.m. The menu will include corned beef and cabbage, carrots, red potatoes and Irish soda bread. Adults will be $12 and children under 10 are $6.

THS Scholarship
      The Trinity Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications for its upper-division scholarships. Applicants must be Trinity High School graduates who have completed at least 56 college units and will be enrolled in the 2009-2010 school year on a full-time basis. Graduate students may also apply.

Kids camp benefit dinner
      Coffee Creek Community Church will hold a fundraiser for youths to attend Kidder Creek camp on Feb. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mexican dinner will be served, and a raffle will be held. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children under age 12.

      By resolution of the Trinity Trust Board of Directors, which advises the Humboldt Area Foundation, the foundation has turned over $7,657 it held for Trinity Hospital to the new Trinity Hospital Foundation.

Blood drive in Weaverville
      BloodSource will hold a blood drive at the Weaverville Fire Hall. The drive is being held in memory of George Halcomb Jr. To give blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors must bring a photo ID. The entire process takes about an hour.

A Senior's View
      In my era, women's long pants were called slacks. Undergarments were lingerie. Now, most young women wear "jeans or pants." Lingerie, per se, is passé. What I used to call "gym pants" are now "sweat pants." The slim style does not include "pockets." I was disappointed and surprised when I recently purchased two "sweat pants" with no pockets!

Help for your pet
      In February the Trinity County Animal Shelter will participate in the USA Spay/ Neuter program to help stop pet overpopulation. Low-income people needing help with the cost to alter a dog or cat can get a certifi cate from the shelter in the amount of $60 per dog or $40 per cat.
