Supervisors wind up 'interesting year' As 2008 comes to a close, the chairman of the board of supervisors, Roger Jaegel, says, "It's been an interesting year. We burned about 200,000 acres in Trinity County and many called it 'the summer that wasn't.' It's not been an easy year." He added that the county is still faced with drought conditions and ongoing fiscal crises at all levels of government. "It's been my pleasure to serve as chair and I thank my fellow board members and everybody who has worked so hard to try to put Trinity County in the best situation we could be in facing these challenges," he said during his last meeting as chairman. The board will select a new chairman as its first order of business in the new year. Jaegel noted that due to all the efforts of county employees and department heads, "I think we are in the best position we can be in. There are going to be lots of challenges in the future, but I'm confident with the caliber of people here we're going to meet them."
It was also the last full meeting for outgoing Supervisor Jeff Morris, who reserved his comments for the board's Jan. 6 meeting when his wife, Judy, will be sworn in as the new District 2 supervisor.
