Hayfork Valley News
35+ years as a columnist

This will be my last Hayfork Valley News column. I started writing in the early 1970s for Peggy Patton. I would write the column for her when she was too busy flying her airplane or out of town for other events. She stopped writing the column and I started a few months later.

I started out on a manual typewriter and moved to an electric typewriter. Next I was using a computer. Now it is a laptop and e-mail.

I used to send my column to the Journal in Weaverville on the Trinity Transit so it would be current. Now with e-mail, it is extremely current. When I first started doing the column it went by mail.

Over the years I was more involved with school, 4-H, Hayfork Little League, Hayfork Chamber of Commerce, Hayfork Park and Recreation District, Hayfork High School as school secretary and the volunteer advisor for Friday Night Live--to name a few.

I would like to thank my faithful readers for encouraging me to write my column. I am extremely thankful for those giving me news items over the years or leads as Betty Wines has done with her monthly calendar.

I did ask Mike Wenninger how many people buy the newspaper out of county and he told me it's over 20 percent. Over the years I have been contacted by many outof county readers. I know subscriptions to The Trinity Journal were given as gifts to some when they went away to college or in the service so they could keep up with the happenings in Trinity County. I thought that was an awesome gift.

Congratulations to Mike as he has had the Journal for 15 years!

I hope you contact my successor with news and upcoming events. Thanks again for the many years of news items and encouragement. I really appreciate the support!

Teri Chisholm now lives in Hamilton, Montana. She moved to Montana from Prineville, Oregon. Now Teri is close to Erich and Tami and their children. They live about 16 miles away from Teri. Teri and grandson Josiah went to Juneau, Alaska, to visit with the Petz family. While there visiting Tara and family, they enjoyed going to Mendenhall Glacier and other areas. Teri was a cab driver in Prineville and now she works at Triple Creek Ranch. The Chisholms lived in Hayfork previously.
