American Christians, Inc.

In response to Lyn Relph's opinion from last week regarding the gradual degradation of Christian society in America, it is true that we are all created equal and each of us has the God-given freedom to chose

Him' in their life decisions. He has already chosen each of us, for it is His highest desire that all people receive salvation, but in the end not all who cry out 'Lord, Lord' will be counted worthy.

Many of us have tried to obtain mercy and deliverance on our own terms, but our own wisdom is foolishness to God. He wants us to pursue His wisdom.

I believe it is proper to stand against heresy in the church and for justice in our town halls. Understandably, many believers have been frustrated with the apparent indifference the church has toward the moral atrocities today. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing," said Edmund Burke.

Yet not a few have yielded to the temptation to take matters into their own hands for an unsuitable testimony to the world. The reason there seems to be little strength in our multi-denominational Christian community is related in part to Lyn's last comment about the church's tax-exempt status. Regrettably, most church organizations have volunteered to be incorporated, contracted under article 501 (c)(3), Title 26, by which they are granted, by the state, tax-deductible status.

But the government cannot penalize a church for opting out, because there is no law that requires it. Without recognizing the consequence of their actions, most clergy have acquiesced to this government request, and by state licensure have relegated the church to the constraints of their government masters. The 501(c)(3) clause entitles the state to be supreme in all matters pertaining to the church!

There is a lot more behind this than most realize. We've heard it said, "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." For the past generation of gradual degeneration in church and society, there has been a growing generation of consignment to Caesar under this 501(c)(3). So much for the separation of church and state.
