      These 3 1/2-month-old, golden retriever/Australian shepherd mix puppies are available for adoption at the Trinity County Animal Shelter. Call Animal Control Officer Christine Edwards at 623-1370. Sheriff's Report
      The Trinity County Sheriff's Department received the following reports from Dec. 22 to 29: Dec. 22 Caller reports subject stayed at her house for several days and is threatening and harassing her. She adds that he is on his way to his daughter's house to pick up marijuana and transport it.

Car runs off Highway 36
      An Arcata man suffered major injuries Monday afternoon when the vehicle he was a passenger in went off Highway 36 and struck a tree, the California Highway Patrol said. The CHP said the driver, Erik Emiel Manuel, 25, of Manila, Calif., was traveling eastbound on Highway 36 approximately 6.

Grant funding for 'safety net' programs
      In response to the economic downturn and resulting increase in demand for basic human needs, such as food, clothing and shelter, Sierra Health Foundation has committed $1 million for safetynet services through its Responsive Grants Program. Nonprofit organizations and public agencies that provide these services and need assistance may apply for up to $25,000 by noon on Jan.

Do you know me?
     This dog was found by people out looking for a Christmas tree near the Humboldt and Trinity county border. He was taken to the Humboldt County Animal Services Shelter on Dec. 24. He is an unaltered male golden retriever/Labrador retriever or golden retriever/Chesapeake Bay retriever cross. The shelter thinks he is about a year and a half old. Tax helpers needed to give assistance
      Human Response Network is sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program this tax season. Volunteers are needed to provide tax preparation assistance for low-income families. Volunteers will participate in a three-day training on how to prepare the 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040 tax returns.
