      A girl, Haylee Michelle Fullerton, was born Dec. 18 to Ray Fullerton and Dawn James of Weaverville. She weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 inches long. She joins sister Leah Rose. Her grandparents are Billie Jo Huett of Junction City, Michelle and Larry Jones of Kettenpom, and Ray Fullerton of Junction City. Her great-grandfather is Billy Huett of Weaverville.

Cadet meets Bush
     Mike and Barbara Polka¹s grandson, West Point Military cadet Matthew McClary, recently met President Bush at West Point. The Polkas have lived in Weaverville for more than 54 years. Matthew's mother, Melanie Polka Reagan, lives in Cameron Park and works at the state Capitol.

The Lewiston Hotel will be open New Year's Eve for dinner and will have a band, The Porch Monkeys, playing live for your dancing pleasure. A Senior's View
      I have been a Trinity Journal columnist since the '80s. At first it was "Junction City Monitor." When I moved to Weaverville, it became "Senior Views" until criticism changed it to "A Senior's View." Since my stroke I have learned writing and dictating are so different; also, a secretary can rewrite to make the boss look good, but a proofreader can only correct typos.

      Bring your appetites to the Six Rivers Lions Club's Crab Feed on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the community hall. Happy hour will be at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6 p.m. Price for adults will be $20. Ages 6- 12 will be priced accordingly, with children 5 and under free. The Six Rivers Lions Club meetings are the first and third Wednesday of each month.

      The Lewiston Traveling Pinochle Club met Dec. 18 at the home of Maxine Cady. First prize winner was Jay Bailey; second, Lee Springs; and third, Dave Rhody. Irene Trenholm won the double pinochle prize. The club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the home of Lee Springs.

      This is New Year's Eve, and if you haven't made plans, consider joining the people in Junction City at the North Fork Grange. Music will be played by the band Trespass. The New Year's Eve Party will be Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Grange. Great rock and roll! The cost is $15 per person.

Inuit founder of ministry to speak
      An engaging storyteller with a sense of humor will be appearing in Hayfork Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Northern Delights Coffeehouse. Everyone is welcome to this free event, although donations are accepted. Dr. Iglahliq Suuqiina was born an Inuit on an island in the far northern Bering Straits.

      The "Cabin Fever Film Festival" is coming to the Trinity Theatre in Weaverville next April, and organizers are seeking entries. The event will be presented by Artistic Mischief, in association with Under One Productions. Categories include production costs under $1, $100, $1,000 and $1 million, along with subcategories.

      150 YEARS AGO Saturday, Jan. 1, 1859 Ladies of Yreka have instituted a sewing circle for the purpose of obtaining a public library. They will certainly collect a great deal of information, traditionary and otherwise. Mr. Messersmith, of the United States Bakery, presented us a Christmas Cake, displaying magnificent confection work. We thank him gratefully.

That's using your gourd
     Jill Richards will be the speaker at the Jan. 7 meeting of the Lewiston Garden Club. Richards is an artist and mask maker who works with gourds. She will demonstrate her craft using projects in various stages of completion. The meeting will be at the Lewiston Community Center at 12:30 p.m. Guests are welcome.       A reception will be held at the Highland Art Center during the Weaverville Art Cruise on Saturday, Jan. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Snyder Highland Foundation is celebrating its 40 years of history during the month and the center will feature its own private collection of art.

5 Windows' show features highlights of 2008
      This January, 5 Windows Gallery will start the new year with some old favorites. A show titled "2008's Finest" will include selected pieces from 2008's featured artists. 2008 began at 5 Windows with the Men's and Women's Invitationals in February and March. April opened with the oils and watercolors of Evelyn Ward.

Concealed weapon class
      Roger Chatterton will be presenting two concealed weapons (CCW) classes for the 2009-2010 period. These classes satisfy the statutory requirements pursuant to Penal Code sections 12050- 12054 et seq, and are mandatory for all people applying for a concealed weapons permit or renewing an existing permit.

Veterans benefit breakfast
      On Saturday, Jan. 17, the Marine Corps League and the VFW are sponsoring a Veterans Benefit Breakfast. It will be at Veterans Memorial Hall, next to the sheriff's department, just off Highway 299 on the west side of Weaverville.
