As the River Flows

By TERRI LEACH & BECKY HALL hyampomer@earthlink.net Box 43, Hyampom, CA 96046

The Farmer's Market has been really hopping the last couple of weeks. The produce is starting to come in now, plus there are other good things to eat out there, and everybody wants some. Besides all of the other good things that come from the garden, we have had our first taste of this year's homegrown tomatoes. Now that's what we're talking about! Those tasteless things from the grocery store just aren't going to do it any more! And is that zucchini we see coming out of your ears?

The smoke has cleared enough during the last two weekends for the Embers shop to be open. We both went out and got our shopping urges satisfied, stuffing bags full of clothes and things. And only paying a dollar! The shop has been closed so long that a lot of donations have come in, but haven't been dealt with. They sure could use some volunteer help. If you have some time on your hands and some love in your heart, the Embers needs a fresh start.

The Hyampom Bar and Grill has changed its hours. They will now be closed on Tuesdays. Stacey Smith, of the cafe, will also be providing a taco dinner for the Hyampom Good Times Fair on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The T.H.R.A.S.H. Group will be coming out that weekend, too. You know them. They are the guys who put up all of those historical site signs around the valley. Virgil and Peggy Mortensen are in that group and they told us that they will be camping out at Salmon Rock. When asked what their planned activities will be, they said, "We mostly just sit in the river." Friends can just drift on down and give them a visit.

Application forms for a booth at the Hyampom Good Times Fair are available at The Hyampom General Store, Northern Delights Coffee Shop, Head Change Arts, and other locations around Hayfork. It's getting close, so get those forms in soon.

The Hyampom Good Times Fair is actually less than three weeks away. You can plan on a daylong festival of music, arts and crafts, food and fun for children and adults. There will be performances from some of our talented local musicians, and the Habibiyyat al Jabal dancers will delight young and old alike. Hippie Chuck and the Rusty Pipes will be providing the get down and boogie after the day's activities are done. There will also be raffles and prizes. So forget the fires and the smoke, and get on out for day of relaxation. Let the good times roll!
