Mistakes in the forest
      FROM JOSEPH BOWER PEANUT After the fire siege of 1987, researchers studied the forests around Hayfork and nearby. Examining large old trees and stumps, they discovered that our forest formerly burned every 7 to 15 years. Because of the frequency of fire, there was little fuel in the understory.

Praise for young swimmers
      FROM DAN HARWOOD WEAVERVILLE In last week's Journal, the article on the swim team had an error. Stephen Harwood was the first Waves swimmer to compete at the Junior Olympics. He was not the first to qualify. About 10 to 12 swimmers each year may qualify with BB times.
